From April 2024 to June 2028, the SLOWDOWN project, supported by Interreg Europe, aims to address the diverse impacts of tourism across European regions. Acknowledging tourism's significant economic contribution to the EU GDP and its employment opportunities, the project seeks to mitigate issues arising from overtourism and underexploited tourism potential. Focusing on slow tourism—a sustainable, immersive approach—the project partners aim to enhance local and regional policies to prioritize and support this emerging sector. Through intensive inter- and intra-regional learning, stakeholder involvement, and policy improvement, SLOWDOWN aims to foster sustainable development while promoting a deeper connection with destinations, cultures, and communities.
