The Small Festivals Accelerator (SMA!) project, funded by the EU under the Creative Europe programme, aims to develop a sustainable model for small festivals in peripheral areas. Recognizing the challenges these festivals face, such as market pressures, lack of infrastructure, and audience engagement difficulties, SMA! seeks to create a business model that addresses these issues. The project focuses on community development, professional training, and enhancing economic and ecological sustainability. By promoting cultural tourism and improving accessibility, SMA! aims to empower local identities and foster transnational cooperation among festivals. The project started on 1 December 2020, is scheduled to conclude on 30 September 2024, and covering five countries.
