The session of the World Economic Forum at Davos, which took place in January 2025, aimed to address also the challenges currently faced by the European Union. Drawing insights from the EU Draghi Report 2024, which focuses on Innovation, Decarbonisation, and Economic Security, the discussion emphasised the need for "directive rules simplification" as a more constructive alternative to the term "deregulation." While the EU possesses the necessary research skills and capital, it currently lacks the initiative and leadership required to drive progress, as highlighted in recent discussions.

Although the topic of Social Economy was not explicitly mentioned, it was subtly referenced in the presentations by speakers. This raises important questions about how to define Social Economy within Europe and its local regions, as well as its relevance beyond the EU. There is much to explore in this area. Furthermore, this 50-minute session was crucial for Social Economy stakeholders to engage with policymakers effectively.
