As part of the EU-funded Retail ReLooped project, Coop Denmark's Kvickly store in Rønne piloted a "LøsMarket" refill system letting shoppers dispense products such as grains and cleaning liquids into reusable containers, testing reusable packaging models under real store conditions.

The living-lab pilot, run with waste management partner BOFA, forms part of a wider Retail ReLooped toolkit being developed across Denmark, Sweden, Poland and Lithuania to help food retailers reduce single-use packaging. The project gathers practical operational data, covering customer uptake, hygiene handling and staff workload, intended to inform a toolkit other retailers can adapt.
For grocery retailers evaluating refill formats, often discussed in principle but rarely tested at full-store scale, the case offers concrete operational lessons on what it actually takes to run such a system day-to-day, beyond the concept stage.
