Boßhammersch Hof, a German family-run organic delivery service, won the "Best organic food retailer" category at the fifth EU Organic Awards, presented by the European Commission in Brussels on EU Organic Day 2026, for its plastic-free delivery model connecting 60 organic farms directly with households, schools and rural communities.

Founded in 1997 and employing 44 people, the company delivers more than 2,000 plastic-free boxes weekly, sourcing seasonal produce mostly within 100km and offering fair prices to both farmers and customers. Its delivery app provides order tracking and recipe suggestions, while the business has built its model around fair wages, intercultural diversity and female leadership, elements the jury cited alongside its logistics as central to what made the model replicable.

The award was one of seven presented across six categories recognising different actors along the organic value chain, selected from more than 120 applications and 21 shortlisted finalists from 12 countries. Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Christophe Hansen said the winners show "that sustainability and competitiveness can go hand in hand," while confirming the Commission intends to keep supporting the organic sector under the post-2027 Common Agricultural Policy. For independent food retailers exploring direct-to-consumer or subscription-box models, the case offers a concrete example of how logistics built around short supply chains and reduced packaging can be run at meaningful commercial scale rather than as a niche add-on.
