BWG Foods won the 2026 NACS Convenience Cares Europe Award for "Climate Flow", a system that reduces reliance on traditional air conditioning by capturing and redistributing airflow already generated in-store, first installed at its EUROSPAR Meakstown store in Dublin.

Developed with Wirth Research and Anglo Irish Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, the system delivered an 80% reduction in energy consumption at its pilot site, without requiring new heating or cooling infrastructure. BWG Foods, which supplies more than 1,000 independent retailers across Ireland, is now rolling the system out further across its network.
For independent and franchise-model retail networks, where individual store owners typically lack the capital for major infrastructure upgrades, the case shows how a chain-level partner can develop and test a solution centrally before making it available for broader rollout across the network.
