European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs) are designed as one-stop shops that help companies and public sector organisations meet digital challenges and boost their competitiveness. They support businesses in improving their processes, products, or services through digital technologies by offering access to technical expertise and testing, including the ‘test before invest’ option. EDIHs also provide innovation services such as financial advice, training, and skills development key pillars for successful digital transformation. They contribute to environmental sustainability, particularly through the application of digital solutions that promote circularity.

Uniquely, EDIHs combine a strong regional presence with the collaborative advantages of a pan-European network. Their local anchoring enables them to serve organisations in their native language and within their local innovation ecosystems, while the broader network allows the exchange of best practices and access to specialised skills across Europe.

The 2025 AI Continent Action Plan highlights EDIHs as key actors in expanding skills and training for AI adoption, particularly tailored for SMEs, mid-caps, and startups.

The EDIH network aims to foster a vibrant ecosystem of collaboration among hubs, SMEs, the public sector, and related stakeholders. The Digital Transformation Accelerator (DTA) supports this goal through digital platforms and tools, including the EDIH online catalogue and performance measurement instruments such as the Digital Maturity Assessment tool developed by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre.

EDIHs often work closely with organisations in networks such as the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) and European Industrial Clusters (EIC). They are also encouraged to link with Start-up Europe to ensure seamless support for SMEs across the innovation landscape.
