The Directive amends the Consumer Rights Directive and the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive to make EU consumer law fit for the green transition. Retailers and brands will need to ensure environmental claims are substantiated and generic terms like "eco-friendly" are not used without recognised certification. The Commission has published FAQs to support coherent application across member states. Retailers should review product marketing, labelling and sustainability claims ahead of the application date, since enforcement authorities in each member state will be able to act once the Directive applies.
