The Registry provides the secure infrastructure through which economic operators register unique product identifiers and associated metadata for products covered by the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation - including textiles, furniture, tyres and ICT products - as well as other product groups such as batteries, construction products and toys. Registration can be completed through a web interface or an API, and operators can request a secure electronic proof of registration to demonstrate compliance in B2B transactions.

For retailers and wholesalers that act as economic operators placing these products on the EU market, the Registry marks the shift of the DPP from a legal requirement on paper to a system they will need to interact with directly, ahead of the phased rollout of mandatory passports from 2027 onwards - starting with certain large batteries from February 2027 - as products carrying passports begin reaching store shelves and warehouses.
