Co-developed by Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) and Good on you and with the critical expertise of WWF France, the Sustainable Retail Index (SRI) is an innovative assessment tool that provides detailed insights into the progress retailers make on their sustainability commitments.

Launched in 2023 as a key component of the evolution of URW sustainability roadmap – Better Places, the SRI enables to evaluate URW retail offer from a sustainability perspective and engage with retailers on the evolution of their responsible practices.

By driving transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement, the SRI aligns with the Retail Transition Pathway of the European Commission, helping the retail industry evolve towards greater sustainability and transparency.

This rating system supports the evolution of retail and aims to:

• Engage in informed conversations with retailers about their sustainability performance at company, product and store level and cooperate on sustainable actions;

• Assist landlords in incorporating the SRI into their leasing decision criteria to drive sustainability in their retail mix;

• Better meet the changing needs of consumers by promoting sustainable retail practices.

URW is committed to actively develop new methodologies to cover the majority of the retail segments. By the end of 2027 URW is committed to reach 100% of its eligible revenues covered with the Sustainable Retail Index. At present, the SRI methodology covers the Fashion, Bags & Footwear, Accessories, Sport, Jewellery and Health & Beauty sectors. Future methodologies would need to be developed for the following sectors: Home, Culture & Technology, Food & Beverage Services.
