This funding opportunity under the European Defence Fund (EDF) focuses on advancing smart and multifunctional textile systems that integrate sensors, protective functions and other embedded technologies into uniforms and soldier systems. The initiative supports innovative textile solutions that enhance operational effectiveness, environmental or physiological monitoring, protection and other mission critical capabilities.

The topic is part of the EDF 2026 annual work programme, designed to strengthen Europe’s defence industrial base by co-funding collaborative research and development projects. It encourages cross-border cooperation among industry partners, research institutions and SMEs able to contribute to next-generation multifunctional textile technologies with applications in defence systems.

Funding will be provided as grant support to eligible consortia that meet the criteria of the call, with projects expected to deliver innovative solutions capable of contributing to the European Defence Technological and Industrial Base (EDTIB). Those themes include protective, detection and integration functions within textile systems tailored to the needs of modern armed forces.
