The 9th international seminar on biopolymers and sustainable composites, organised by AIMPLAS, brought together experts from industry and research to discuss key developments in sustainable materials within the circular economy. Held in Valencia, Spain, the seminar provided a platform for technical debate on regulation, certification and innovation in the field of biopolymers.
Discussions during the first day focused on the evolving European regulatory framework, particularly the impact of packaging and waste regulations in driving material design towards certified composability. The sessions explored topics such as traceability standards, chemical recycling processes and the use of plant-based biomass as a resource. The second day shifted attention to practical applications, including the use of biodegradable materials in open environments and agriculture, with case studies demonstrating improved crop performance and resource efficiency through biopolymer solutions.
The seminar also highlighted how new technologies are moving from research to market, underlining the growing role of biopolymers and sustainable composites in advancing circular production systems. As regulatory pressure and innovation continue to evolve, such forums play a key role in aligning industry practices with sustainability goals and accelerating the adoption of bio-based materials across sectors.
