European Commissioner Jessika Roswall convened a high-level stakeholder roundtable in Brussels to explore ways to streamline environmental legislation. The meeting focused on reducing administrative burdens in areas such as the circular economy, industrial emissions, waste management, and environmental permitting.
The roundtable follows a Call for Evidence that ran from 22 July to 10 September, designed to collect stakeholder feedback on an upcoming environmental simplification package. Over 190,000 responses were submitted, offering proposals for simplifying rules while preserving environmental standards.
The objective is to make EU environmental rules clearer, easier, faster, and cheaper to implement. Roswall affirmed the Commission’s commitment to crafting a ‘leaner legal framework’ that maintains environmental integrity while supporting business and public administrations.
