The 65th Dornbirn Global Fibre Congress took place from 16-18 September 2026 in Dornbirn, Austria, bringing together fibre researchers, industry representatives and innovators to discuss developments shaping the future of the fibre and textile sectors. The programme featured more than 100 expert presentations across three parallel strands, with a focus on circularity, biobased materials, digitalisation, high-performance fibres and cross-industry innovation.  

A key theme was the challenge of moving circular textile solutions from technology development to industrial scale. Discussions addressed fibre recycling, collection and sorting infrastructure, market conditions and the competitiveness of European supply chains. Other sessions explored artificial intelligence, data and intelligent fibres, functional and innovative fibres, as well as workwear and protective textiles, including defence applications.  

The congress also examined opportunities for collaboration beyond the traditional textile value chain, including links between fibre and textile production and the pulp and paper sector. Textile ETP participated in the event as part of the wider exchange between researchers, industry and innovation stakeholders. The next Dornbirn Global Fibre Congress is scheduled for 14-16 September 2027.
