The ECOSYSTEX Conference 2025 was held from 29 September to 1 October in Gothenburg, Sweden, in partnership with RISE Research Institutes of Sweden. The event convened professionals throughout the textile value chain to discuss how emerging technologies and new business models might accelerate Europe’s transition to a circular textile economy.
The conference featured hands-on workshops run by six EU-funded projects, PESCO-UP, SOLSTICE, tExtended, Hemp4Circularity, BioFibreLoop and WhiteCycle that translated research into applied strategies. Special sessions addressed Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) in textiles, EU policy signals, and updating investment flows toward circular solutions, noting that Europe generates 2.6 million tonnes of textile waste annually, but only 20% is separately collected.
A final day included a guided visit to RISE’s research and testing facilities, where participants explored advances in fibre development, textile recycling and certifications. The conference concluded with a ‘Textile ETP on Tour’ visit to the Swedish School of Textiles in Borås, reinforcing the message that collaboration across the value chain is essential to a viable circular textile future.
