The European Commission reports that the EU Ecolabel has achieved a new historic high. 109,096 products are now certified under 3,384 licences across Europe, the broadest range ever under the scheme.
Since March 2025, certified product numbers have increased by 7% (+6,723) and licences by 4% (+136). Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) hold 57% of all licences, demonstrating strong engagement from smaller players in the green transition.
Italy leads in product certifications with 17% of EU Ecolabel products, followed by Spain (15%), France (12%), and Germany (9%) together accounting for more than half of all certified items. In terms of product groups, paints & varnishes top the list with 38,096 certified products, followed by tissue paper & products (20,253), textiles (11,067), and hard surface cleaning items (8,284). Tourism also features prominently, as 26% of all licences are held by certified tourist accommodations (901 certified establishments).
The record growth underscores expanding market potential for certified products and reinforces the EU’s push toward sustainable consumption and production. The data underscores the role of smaller businesses in leading the change, and points to sectors and geographies where further opportunity exists.
