The European Commission has reported continued growth in the uptake of the EU Ecolabel in 2026, underlining its expanding role in promoting sustainable consumption and production across Europe. As of March 2026, a total of 116,692 products and services have been awarded the label, supported by 3,541 licences, with 97% based in the European Economic Area (EEA). This growth highlights the scheme’s increasing relevance as the EU advances its circular economy and environmental objectives.
Recent data also show a steady upward trend since September 2025, with the number of labelled products increasing by 7% (+7,596 products) and licences rising by 5% (+157 licences). The scheme continues to see strong participation across sectors, with tourist accommodation accounting for 27% of licences, followed by cleaning products and tissue-based products. In terms of product categories, paints and varnishes represent 33% of all labelled products, followed by tissue products (18%), textiles (10%), and furniture (9%). Small and medium-sized enterprises play a significant role, making up approximately 61% of licence holders, reflecting the accessibility of the scheme across business sizes. Ongoing updates to product group criteria further ensure alignment with evolving environmental standards and market needs.
The continued expansion of the EU Ecolabel demonstrates its growing importance as a practical tool for supporting sustainable production and consumption, while strengthening market trust and competitiveness across sectors.
