The 2025 ADD-ITC took place on 27-28 November 2025 at Eurogress Aachen Germany, bringing together leading researchers, industry representatives and policy experts to explore key developments in the textile sector. The event, one of Europe’s foremost textile research forums, featured plenary lectures, thematic sessions and discussions on sustainable textiles, circular economy, innovative materials and emerging technologies.
At the two-day conference, participants exchanged insights on topics including sustainable textiles, circular textile economy, biobased and high-performance fibres, smart textiles, and the role of robotics within textile manufacturing and processing. Lutz Walter, Secretary General of Textile ETP, moderated the plenary session “Durable or Disposable? Fashion’s Sustainability Dilemma”, where panellists including representatives from the European Commission and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action discussed how EU textile sustainability regulation and national implementation strategies can help drive long-term use, design for longevity and improved end-of-life systems such as separate collection, sorting, repair and recycling.
Panel discussions underscored that even durable textile products inevitably reach end of life, emphasising the need for efficient circular systems and collaboration among regulators, researchers, designers, technologists and industry innovators. Participants also noted the importance of discouraging business models that promote rapid consumption, poor-quality products or superficial environmental claims. Beyond the formal sessions, the conference offered valuable in-person opportunities for networking and exchanging future ideas. Organisers announced that the next edition of the conference will be hosted by ITM -TU Dresden in Dresden, Germany, during the last week of November 2026.
