The first Regional Skills Partnership for the textile sector in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes has officially been launched, marking a key step under the EU Pact for Skills and establishing a strong framework to tackle skills challenges while reinforcing the region’s industrial leadership in Europe.

Facilitated through the TCLF SkillBridge project, the initiative builds on strong regional cooperation and is led by UNITEX and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region, bringing together public authorities, industry representatives, education and training providers to address key challenges facing the sector.

As the leading textile region in France, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is home to over 800 companies and 18,000 workers, specialising in technical, innovative and luxury textiles. The sector is a strategic pillar of the regional economy, but is facing growing challenges, such as:

  • Shortages in qualified workers

  • An ageing workforce

  • The need to embrace sustainability and digitalisation

  • Limited attractiveness of the sector for younger generations

To respond, the Regional Skills Partnership will work on a shared skills strategy, focusing on:

  • Anticipating future skills needs, especially in technical and digital fields

  • Promoting lifelong learning and facilitating upskilling/reskilling

  • Improving the image of the sector and attracting young talent

  • Aligning training provision with industry demand

  • Fostering regional innovation through collaborative governance
