As winter arrives across Europe, the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Environment is highlighting how the EU Ecolabel can guide consumers to choose sustainable products for indoor living spaces during the colder months. The EU Ecolabel helps households combine comfort with environmental responsibility by promoting items that meet strict environmental criteria from raw material sourcing to durability and disposal.
The announcement notes that furnishing and everyday items from furniture and textiles to paper products carrying the EU Ecolabel are made using sustainable raw materials, lower impact manufacturing processes and reduced chemical use. Among the examples given, certified furniture models are made from sustainably sourced wood with low emission finishes, while baby clothes with the flower logo are dermatologically tested, free from hazardous substances and composed mostly of textile fibres. Consumers can also find EU Ecolabel certified pillows, duvet covers, quilts and throws with lower environmental footprints.
By selecting products bearing the EU Ecolabel, the Commission says individuals can create welcoming indoor environments while supporting broader environmental goals. The scheme’s certified items are listed in the EU Ecolabel Product Catalogue (ECAT), offering sustainable options for a range of winter household needs.
