A newly published June 2025 report by the Horizon Europe‑funded T‑REX (Textile Recycling Excellence) project details the development and testing of a pilot data model designed to standardise information sharing across the textile‑to‑textile recycling supply chain. Drawing from techno‑economic assessment (TEA) findings, the study identifies core data necessities spanning from sorting and preprocessing to end-of-life recycling. It explores the integration of Digital Product Passports and emphasises the need for system interoperability, transparency and trust among sorters, recyclers and other stakeholders.
The report highlights both achievements and limitations. While it was possible to capture key data from sorting and recycling stages, precise detection of hazardous materials or contaminants proved challenging at pilot scale. The authors recommend further development of digital tracing systems, enhanced batch‑level tracking, and alignment with existing traceability platforms. These steps will be essential to scale circular business models and support effective fibre‑to‑fibre recycling in Europe.
You can access the full report on the official T‑REX Project website.
