Since the launch of the EU Textiles Ecosystem Platform, the Commission has collected commitments from organisations across Europe to drive sustainability, innovation, and resilience in the textiles sector. The first published report provides a comprehensive overview of 79 pledges from 20 organisations across 10 EU Member States and Switzerland that were validated and published on the platform until 15 July 2025, and a second report is planned to showcase additional pledges as participation continues to grow.
Building Momentum for Systemic Change
The pledges reflect broad engagement across the ecosystem, covering all eight building blocks of the Transition Pathway and addressing key actions outlined in the strategy. Participating organisations represent diverse segments of the textile ecosystem, including apparel and footwear manufacturers, waste management providers, technology companies, and business support networks.
"Pledges are an essential tool for translating EU strategies into practical action", the report emphasises. These structured voluntary commitments create transparency and accountability across the textile value chain while facilitating public-private collaboration. Companies are leveraging existing sustainability reporting frameworks to make commitments, while industry associations and NGOs are addressing systemic challenges requiring collective action.
Translating Ambitions into Action
Publishing pledges offers multiple advantages for organisations and the broader ecosystem, including concrete accountability through measurable indicators and target dates, recognition of leadership in sustainability and innovation, opportunities for knowledge exchange and partnership formation, and market advantages that attract aligned customers, talent and investors.
The collective pledge inventory also helps identify areas requiring additional focus or collaborative effort, enabling the ecosystem to address gaps and strengthen weak points in the transformation process.
How to Participate
The EU Textiles Ecosystem Platform continues to collect, validate, and publish new pledges, aiming to expand participation across Member States and stakeholder groups. An effective pledge consists of three essential components: a tangible commitment to an ongoing or planned initiative, a measurable indicator for objective assessment, and a target date to establish accountability.
Pledges may cover a wide range of topics across the eight building blocks of the Transition Pathway: sustainable competitiveness, regulation and governance, social dimension, research and innovation, infrastructure, skills, investment and funding, and EU strategic autonomy and defence support.
Organisations are invited to submit pledges through the dedicated section on the EU Textiles Ecosystem Platform and to update their commitments to highlight impactful practices regularly. Guidelines are available on the platform to help stakeholders develop effective pledges that drive meaningful transformation.
The sharing of pledges on the platform helps raise awareness, encourages collaboration and recognises the contributions of all stakeholders, particularly SMEs, which play a vital role in the ecosystem’s transformation.
