ReOn is an independent, early-stage initiative in Portugal exploring how to preserve the value of post-consumer textiles through material identification, minimal preparation and digital traceability. We seek independent technical feedback, knowledge exchange and connections with European textile circularity experts.

About ReOn

ReOn is an independent, early-stage initiative based in Portugal, focused on exploring practical ways to preserve the value of post-consumer textiles that are no longer suitable for reuse as garments.

The initiative is developing an evidence-based knowledge base, a small demonstrator using six real textile samples, and a simple digital concept for material documentation and traceability.

Our approach

ReOn is examining whether proportionate, minimal preparation can preserve more usable textile material for potential downstream applications.

The initiative considers material condition, fibre composition, accessories, preparation requirements and traceability. Unknown material composition is explicitly recorded as unknown.

A fundamental principle is to distinguish material that has been identified or prepared from material that has actually been accepted, reused or recycled by a verified downstream operator.

Expertise and cooperation sought

We are interested in exchanging knowledge with European research organisations, textile circularity projects, sorting and material recovery specialists, and potential users of secondary textile materials.

We particularly welcome preliminary feedback on:

  • Textile material identification and classification.
  • Technical requirements for preserving and preparing textile materials.
  • Quality, contamination and fibre composition constraints.
  • Traceability and verification of downstream destinations.
  • Potential applications and limitations of preserved textile panels.

Current stage

ReOn is currently a self-directed proof of concept, without personal capital investment. It does not operate a textile collection or waste treatment service.

At this stage, we are seeking independent preliminary technical feedback, knowledge exchange and possible no-cost cooperation, without paid consultancy or commercial commitments.
