COTANCE will continue to advocate for the exclusion of bovine hides from the scope of the EUDR, supported by the academic study conducted by the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies (University of Pisa), confirming no direct link between leather and deforestation.
At the same time, COTANCE will strengthen the Leather Traceability Cluster to advance mutual recognition of leather-traceability audits and certifications. In 2026, COTANCE will:
- Secure official CEN recognition of the LTC traceability standard EN 18199,
- Promote the standard and ensure certification bodies adopt or align with it, guaranteeing coherence and consistency across the sector.
