Application Process
1. What are the main steps in applying for EU funding?
- Find a call that matches your idea.
- Check eligibility and what the call wants to achieve.
- Prepare your project plan & budget using the templates.
- Collect required documents.
- Submit before the deadline.
- Wait for evaluation and, if selected, sign the grant agreement and start the project
The exact steps may vary depending on the programme, but this general structure applies across EU funding schemes.
(For a more detailed, step by step walkthrough of the application process and practical templates, please refer to the EU Funding Guide and the Tourism Funding Toolkit)
2. Do I need to register my organisation before applying?
Usually yes. Most calls require your organisation to be registered on the relevant portal so the funder can verify who you are (legal and financial details). The call or portal explains what to register and when.
3. Can I apply as a single applicant?
It depends on the call. Some calls allow a single SME. Others require a consortium (several organisations, sometimes from different countries). The call text will say whether a single applicant is allowed.
4. What factors increase the chances of success in EU funding applications?
Focus on:

5. How do I register on the Funding & Tenders Portal and obtain a PIC number?
PIC (Participant Identification Code) is the 9-digit identifier you will use when participating in many EU calls. Steps:
1. Create an EU Login account: This provides access to the Funding & Tenders Portal services

2. Go to “Participant register” and register your organisation: Here you will get registered and obtain a 9-digit PIC number.

3. Enter core organisation details (typical requirements)
• Legal name and legal form
• Address and Member State
• VAT number (if applicable) and other identifiers requested by the portal
• Basic organisation information (size/type or activity area)

4. Submit the registration to obtain the PIC: You will then use the PIC in applications and correspondence.
Tip for SMEs: Register early — PIC registration is often required before you can be formally added to a proposal.
(Detailed screenshots, checklists and step by step instructions on PIC registration will be provided in the Tourism Funding Toolkit and in the training materials and online courses to be hosted via the EU Academy)
