Tourismusverband Linz is a well-connected, financially stable city focused on sustainability with notable achievements such as past recognition as the European Capital of Culture. However, it faces challenges including business fatigue, resistance to digitalization, lack of crisis preparedness, and limited labor resources.
To address these, the Tourismusverband Linz plans to enhance crisis communication through a strategic plan and collaboration with the police, implement digital information kiosks and data management systems, and support workforce development with new training programs. Additionally, the city will boost marketing efforts to promote local attractions and flexible travel arrangements during crises. These actions aim to improve crisis management, digital access, and workforce resilience while enhancing the overall tourist experience.

Linz is a destination with effective communication networks among its partners and a manageable size that facilitates effective collaboration. It has a solid financial foundation and maintains high IT security measures. The city is actively pursuing sustainability, with initiatives like the Green City Initiative and ongoing climate protection efforts. Additionally, Linz's good transportation connections and focus on climate management highlight its commitment to becoming a more sustainable urban area.
The city's past recognition as the European Capital of Culture and participation in large EU projects offer potential boosts for visibility and growth. Moreover, Linz benefits from low dependency on the main source markets and a strong local market presence, supported by creative marketing and product development focused on sustainability.
Linz also faces significant challenges. Businesses are experiencing fatigue and show little interest in participatory processes as they are overwhelmed with daily operations. Many businesses are also afraid of digitalisation, making it difficult to increase technology adoption in the tourism ecosystem. They also do not have the necessary expertise to develop crisis preparedness and improve crisis management capabilities.
The city also faces resource shortages (labour) among tourism organisations and businesses and has limited overview of tourism data.
