In a bid to counter the negative impacts of mass tourism seen in popular European destinations, EU-backed researchers are partnering with local communities in overlooked regions to develop sustainable tourism strategies. The initiative includes pilot projects in areas such as Trebinje, Bosnia and Herzegovina, where residents are actively involved in shaping tourism that celebrates their rich cultural heritage.
The TExTOUR project exemplifies this approach by fostering community involvement to ensure that tourism growth aligns with local needs and sustainability goals. This strategy not only aims to retain cultural uniqueness but also seeks to offer meaningful travel experiences without overwhelming these destinations.
For a detailed exploration of these innovative efforts, please refer to the original article and visit the TExTOUR project website.
