Ljubljana was recognised at the New Mobility Congress 2026 for its public-private partnership model supporting shared electric mobility. For a destination whose entire tourism brand rests on being green and walkable, this is less a side project than an extension of that identity.

Ljubljana has entered a long-term public-private partnership to roll out shared electric vehicles, dedicated parking spaces and charging infrastructure across the city, aiming to reduce private car ownership and support its climate neutrality goals.

Since being named European Green Capital in 2016, Ljubljana has built much of its tourism appeal around a largely car-free historic centre, a rarity among European capitals that visitors specifically travel to experience. A large, long-term shared electric mobility network gives those same visitors a genuinely sustainable way to explore neighbourhoods beyond the pedestrian core, extending the city's green credentials outward rather than letting car dependency creep back in as demand grows.
