As Europe enters the off-season from October 2025 through March 2026, a substantial portion of its population—73%—remains committed to traveling. This inclination signals a stable intent to pursue adventures beyond familiar borders, backed by resilient budgets and a shifting focus toward fewer but more meaningful journeys.
Southern Europe and the Mediterranean have swiftly ascended as the preferred destinations, offering compelling climates and cultural experiences that resonate with the aspirations of today's traveler. An increase of 3% from the previous autumn showcases a growing inclination to explore beyond one's home country, reflecting a desire for diverse environments and experiences.
This movement, tracked by the "Monitoring Sentiment for Intra-European Travel" initiative, collects data from ten major European markets, including Germany, the United Kingdom, France, and others. The project, co-funded by the European Union and driven by the analytical acumen of MINDHAUS, provides crucial insights into the behaviors and motivations shaping this travel landscape.
The strategic findings and recommendations from the project compose monthly reports offering guidance to destinations and tourism authorities seeking to align with evolving travel patterns. The full report Monitoring Sentiment for Intra-European Travel Autumn ’25/Winter 2026 is accessible on the European Travel Commission's website, presenting an opportunity to delve deeper into the dynamics of European travel during this promising season.
