According to Eurostat estimates, approximately 5.5 billion nights were spent by EU travelers in 2022 across various destinations. The majority of these nights (87%) were within the EU itself. Other destinations included America (3%), Asia (2%), and Africa (2%). Overall, 60% of the nights were spent domestically, while 40% were in foreign countries. The primary purpose of these trips was personal (94% of all purposes). Interestingly, when compared to the pre-pandemic period, the quantity of nights spent by travelers is nearly equal to the pre-COVID levels, indicating a gradual recovery and increased confidence in the industry.
