A survey by Toerisme Vlaanderen reveals tourism indicators which found that while many residents support tourism for its benefits, some also experience nuisances and believe it affects their quality of life.

A survey conducted by Toerisme Vlaanderen in 2023, which included 7,175 respondents from art cities in Flanders (Antwerp, Bruges, Ghent, Leuven and Mechelen), revealed that 69.0% of residents support tourism, 64.0% believe it enhances the city’s vibrancy, and 62.0% think it strengthens the economy. However, 36.0% of respondents reported experiencing nuisances due to tourism, and 42.0% felt that tourism reduces their quality of life.
