In 2023, Greece saw a substantial rise in its outbound tourism compared to the previous year, although the numbers did not reach the pre-pandemic levels. Bulgaria emerged as the top destination for Greek travelers, attracting close to 1.1 million visitors, which accounted for 24.6% of all trips Greeks made abroad. Turkey and Italy were also popular, with approximately 599.4 thousand (13.8%) and 578.0 thousand (13.3%) Greek tourists visiting these countries, respectively. In contrast, back in 2019, while Bulgaria still held the top spot among destinations for Greeks, Turkey and Germany were almost equally favored.
