Teams will work for three days on real challenges set by eight tourism destinations, combining game design, cultural heritage, communication and technology to create sustainable game-based tourism experiences. The organisers aim for at least 40 participants from across Europe, with teams formed for a balance of skills and countries and each supported by a mentor with local knowledge. Working language is English, and participation is free.

The winning team receives a fully covered study visit to Madeira from 7 to 10 March 2027 to present its idea. I-DEMO is an Erasmus+ project (November 2024 to April 2027) with partners from Italy, Greece, Cyprus, the Netherlands, Poland and Portugal. For destinations and young professionals, the hackathon is a low-cost way to test how games and digital engagement can support heritage interpretation and visitor management.
