The new publication comes from ENIT — the Italian National Tourism Board, the government agency responsible for promoting Italy’s tourism sector globally and for supporting innovation, research and strategic development within the industry. ENIT works to strengthen Italy’s international tourism presence while advancing sustainable and responsible travel practices.

Italy’s free e-book on climate-sensitive tourism presents a comprehensive overview of how the tourism sector can adapt to climate challenges and contribute to environmental protection. It explains how destinations can lower emissions, integrate circular-economy principles, improve mobility choices, protect natural and cultural heritage and encourage tourism models that respect both the environment and local communities.

The guide covers a wide range of themes, including low-impact travel design, resilience planning, community involvement, eco-friendly accommodation, green mobility, digital innovation and climate-aligned destination management. By combining research, case studies and practical tools, the publication helps tourism stakeholders rethink traditional approaches and develop long-term strategies that are both economically viable and environmentally responsible.

For European tourism as a whole, the release of this guide is timely. Many regions — from Mediterranean coasts to Alpine areas and cultural cities — are facing increasing climate pressures. Italy’s new resource provides pathways for destinations seeking to transition toward sustainable tourism models while maintaining competitiveness, protecting local ecosystems and meeting travellers’ growing expectations for responsible travel.

The e-book supports a wider movement within Europe to shift from high-impact tourism toward climate-friendly, resilient and community-centred experiences. It encourages tourism actors to innovate, collaborate and adopt sustainability as a core element of their development strategies.
