Austria and Hungary have joined hands to advance sustainable tourism via the Alpannonia trail, connecting the picturesque Alps to the Hungarian Plain. Highlighted by the ThreeT project and funded by Interreg Europe, this initiative involves establishing a long-distance nature trail, complete with integral infrastructure, such as hiking gates and rest areas, along its 150 km route.

With a total budget of EUR 2,238,101, the project also emphasizes tour guide training and strategic marketing efforts to enhance the eco-tourism experience. As hiking grows in popularity worldwide, the Alpannonia trail serves as a transferable model for regions looking to harness their shared cultural and natural heritage for tourism.
