The Barcelona Provincial Council has launched the Barcelona Region Commitment to Sustainable Tourism, a groundbreaking certification program targeting businesses, services, and public bodies across the province.

The initiative, which began in 2017, aims to elevate sustainable tourism management while adhering to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. With 1,043 certified entities, the program offers capacity-building, workshops, and awareness actions, encouraging participants to develop Improvement Plans that align with its sustainability criteria.

Barcelona's commitment earned the province and city the prestigious Biosphere Platinum Certification in 2022, highlighting their global leadership in sustainable tourism practices.
