In the upcoming summer season, Capri is taking decisive action to address the challenges of overtourism, which sees up to 50,000 daily visitors dwarfing its resident population of around 13,000 to 15,000. The Italian haven renowned for its elegance and serenity is cracking down on large tour groups, notorious for disrupting its narrow streets and scenic views. New rules limit tour groups to 40 people and ban loudspeakers and conspicuous items like umbrellas, emphasizing headphone use for guides to maintain order.

The initiative reflects a broader European movement to recalibrate tourism strategies for sustainability and livability. Local stakeholders have lauded the policy as essential for preserving the island's character and ensuring it remains enjoyable for all visitors, not just the affluent.
