Copenhagen is spearheading a transformative project called CULTIGEN, short for CULture, TourIsm, reGENeration through innovative digital solutions and governance platforms. This Europe-funded initiative runs from December 2024 to May 2028 with a budget of 35 million DKK, seeking to balance tourism growth with community well-being by developing digital solutions for sustainable urban governance.
Led by the City of Copenhagen and co-funded by the European Urban Initiative, CULTIGEN aspires to boost collaboration among European cities and influence urban policy-making while addressing over-tourism. Key components include an Urban Listening Tool, neighbourhood interventions, and a blueprint for citizen engagement, aiming to create scalable and replicable solutions across the EU.
