The Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport published this report on 22 July 2026, combining EU transport and tourism indicators in one overview for the first time. The transport section covers the sector's sustainability, resilience, connectivity and safety, spanning roughly 1.4 million companies and 10.4 million jobs across the EU. Each of the 27 member states gets its own factsheet on transport network structure and alternative fuel uptake.

The tourism component is new to this edition. The report highlights that 2025 was a record year, with EU tourism accommodation overnight stays passing 3 billion for the first time, framed alongside the Commission's forthcoming EU Strategy for Sustainable Tourism, which aims to make the sector more competitive, sustainable, inclusive and resilient.

For the tourism ecosystem, the report signals where EU policy is heading: closer integration between tourism and transport planning, with a clearer link between sustainability goals and travel patterns. It's best used as background and strategic context rather than as a source for a single statistic.
