On February 25, 2026, key stakeholders in the European tourism industry convened in Brussels for the initial network meeting centered around a newly introduced Code of Conduct for Online Ratings and Reviews for Tourism Accommodation. Initiated by the EU Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport, the Code was co-created with various stakeholders to enhance the credibility and transparency of online reviews in the tourism accommodation sector. Signatories to the Code include prominent organizations such as HolidayCheck, eu travel tech, HOTREC, Booking.com, Expedia Group, Tripadvisor Group, and Airbnb, among others.
With a unified commitment to authenticity, these organizations pledge to adopt practices that ensure genuine guest reviews—distinguishing between verified guests and others—to aid travelers in making informed decisions. Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, underscored the initiative's significance by affirming that trust is fundamental in tourism, and authentic reviews can benefit travelers, businesses, and the entire European tourism ecosystem.
For more comprehensive details on the Code of Conduct and how to participate, visit the official website: EU Code of Conduct for Online Reviews and Ratings.
