The Rhine Cycle Route, part of EuroVelo 15, has just been re-labelled as a European high-quality route. This distinction celebrates the work of local authorities, tourism organisations and on-the-ground teams in Alsace who are dedicated to making cycling both enjoyable and accessible.
The figures speak for themselves: 87 per cent of the route is traffic-free or on very low-traffic roads, 86 per cent runs on comfortable surfaces, and cyclists benefit from clear and consistent signage from the north to the south of Alsace.
This re-labelling confirms the Rhine Cycle Route as a route of excellence, open to all users—whether experienced cyclists, families, riders with cargo bikes or those using adapted cycles. It underlines Alsace’s ambition to be known not only for its landscapes and culture but also as a true cycling destination.
The achievement reflects years of collaboration among Alsace Destination Tourisme, local authorities and the wider cycling network, who continue to ensure that EuroVelo 15 stands as a model for sustainable mobility and active tourism.
