France achieved a historic tourism milestone in 2025 by welcoming over 102 million international visitors, making it the world's most visited country. This success was fueled by strong demand from major markets, better connectivity, a variety of cultural and nature experiences, and ongoing promotional activities. This achievement highlights the significance of strategic destination management, high-quality experiences, and sustainable tourism strategies — lessons that are relevant throughout the European tourism industry.

France’s tourism sector reached a remarkable milestone in 2025, welcoming over 102 million international visitors. According to Atout France’s latest report, this affirms France’s status as the world’s top tourist destination and showcases the resilience and allure of its tourism offerings—from city culture and cuisine to coastal retreats and mountain escapes. Despite global economic challenges and shifting travel habits, visitor numbers in 2025 broke previous records. The country’s success stems from a diverse tourism portfolio that appeals to various travelers. Major cities like Paris, Lyon, and Marseille continued to attract cultural and business visitors, while regions such as Provence, Brittany, and the Alps experienced high demand for nature, outdoor, and seasonal tourism. Smaller cities and rural areas also contributed significantly, indicating a more balanced distribution of visitors across France.
