🎯 What’s the Challenge About?
European tourism is booming as visitor numbers have surpassed pre-pandemic levels across the EU. But smart businesses and destinations know that sustainable growth isn't just about environmental responsibility, it's about economic strategy.
Why This Challenge Matters?
The green transition delivers tangible business value through lower operating costs, climate risk protection, premium market positioning, leading to stronger local economies.
This challenge aims to gather insights and showcase best practices on how the adoption of sustainability practices has generated tangible economic benefits for tourism businesses, destinations, and communities.
We want to hear your success stories demonstrating how environmental sustainability drives economic competitiveness, operational efficiency, and long-term resilience.
We particularly encourage submissions from private sector companies (SMEs and large enterprises), destinations, DMOs, public authorities, academic institutions, NGOs, business associations, and all tourism stakeholders with economic sustainability success stories.
Ready to inspire change in tourism? Join the challenge today and share now your experiences, projects, and best practices that have brought measurable results and impact.
The challenge will be open until 30 April 2026.
All accepted submissions will be published on EU Tourism Platform.

How will the Winner be Selected?
Submissions will be evaluated based on:
1. Alignment with the topic: Does the action clearly relates to the topic, ie. Demonstration of measurable economic benefits from sustainability/ green practices?
2. Practical applicability and Innovation: Is the action replicable by other businesses/destinations and does it show innovative approach?
3. Multistakeholder collaboration: Does the action engage a mix of organisation types (e.g. public authorities, SMEs, NGOs, academia)?
4. Alignment with twin transition: Does the action contribute to tourism’s green transition goals (sustainable mobility, circularity of tourism services, green transition of tourism companies, R&I projects and pilots on circular and climate-friendly tourism, PEF/OEF methodology) as well as to digital transition practices?
✍️ Tips for Completing the form
1. Provide a unique title:
Your title should be clear, informative, and accurately reflect the essence of the content.
The title displayed on the platform must differ from the original one (e.g. the title used in the project’s own website or news item). Simply copying and pasting can be considered a potential violation of intellectual property rights and should be strictly avoided.
2. Include a summary:
This should be a brief overview—1 to 2 sentences—that allows readers to quickly understand the core idea of the content before reading further. Avoid lengthy explanations or unnecessary details at this stage.
3. Add a short description:
This section should answer the key questions: Who? What? Where? When? How? and Why is it important? To add the description, go to: Content → Paragraph type → Rich text → Add paragraph.
4. Upload a featured image
Before uploading, ensure the image is royalty-free. Always include the source of the image in the content notes.
5. Add a note
In the bottom right, indicate that your proposed content is intended for the online challenge by typing “Online Challenge Skills for the Twin Transition” in the “Add a note” box
6. Submit your contribution
When you have completed the form click on the “Submit” button on the bottom of the form. In case you would like to save the form for later review and submission click on the “Save” button. Please note that contributions will be assessed only when submitted.
