Following the 46th edition of FITUR, Spain’s Ministry of Industry and Tourism has outlined its strategic priorities for the coming years, reinforcing the country’s commitment to sustainable and competitive tourism. The government emphasised the rollout of the Tourism Strategy 2030, which aims to strengthen economic, social and environmental sustainability across the sector and consolidate Spain’s global leadership in tourism policy.
Spain continues to build on strong performance in 2025, which saw record international arrivals and visitor spending. The new strategic focus highlights quality over volume, diversification of experiences and stronger links between tourism, culture and local communities. This approach reflects broader European priorities in responsible tourism, regional development and resilience.
One of the key announcements was the opening of the new Parador de Ibiza, a project designed to enhance cultural tourism and support year-round travel. Located in a historic fortress within the UNESCO-listed Dalt Vila, the Parador will contribute to destination diversification, strengthen heritage-based tourism and support local economies beyond peak seasons. The initiative also highlights Spain’s continued investment in preserving cultural assets while improving accessibility and the visitor experience.
Another major pillar is the relaunch of social dialogue in the hospitality sector, bringing together trade unions and employers. The objective is to improve working conditions, strengthen skills and increase the attractiveness of tourism careers. This aligns with broader European discussions on the future of work in tourism and the need for a resilient and skilled workforce.
FITUR also reinforced Spain’s role in global tourism governance. The country is strengthening cooperation with international partners and organisations, while Madrid continues to position itself as a global hub for tourism leadership and policy dialogue. Meetings with delegations from multiple countries highlighted the importance of international collaboration, connectivity and innovation in shaping the future of the sector.
The Ministry also highlighted major upcoming opportunities, including promoting astronomical events such as the solar eclipse, which combines science, education and tourism experiences. These initiatives demonstrate Spain’s ambition to create innovative, high-value tourism products and diversify demand throughout the year.
For European tourism, Spain’s approach offers a relevant example of how national strategies can align sustainability, competitiveness and social responsibility. The focus on heritage, workforce, governance and innovation reflects the direction many European destinations are taking as they transition to more balanced, climate-friendly tourism models.
