The Urban Agenda for the EU Sustainable Tourism Partnership met in Galați, Romania, on 20 and 21 October 2026 as it finalises its six Actions. Its partners agreed to examine the forthcoming EU Tourism Strategy, expected in November 2026, before linking their recommendations to it.

The six actions cover climate-friendly destinations, greener tourism SMEs, digital competencies, tourism diversification, accessibility and the protection of local retail. The discussion centred on how these guides, handbooks and toolkits reach those who can use them, and the partners distinguished between making knowledge visible and making it useful. They identified priority audiences and routes such as thematic articles, webinars, national outreach and cooperation with Urban Contact Points.

The partnership plans to prepare a consolidated Common Output that connects its recommendations and good practices with the Strategy’s guidelines once it is available, asking what a recommendation would mean in practice for a historic city under visitor pressure or a smaller destination trying to diversify. The programme also showed Galați’s approach, linking Danube heritage, local gastronomy and community hospitality, including Romania’s “local gastronomic points”, a regulated model for small-scale, home-based food experiences.
