actions and projects of Regione Liguria – Tourism to achieve accessible, inclusive and sustainable tourism
Regione Liguria has continued its work alongside the Regional Council for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, INAIL Liguria Regional Directorate, AISM - Italian Multiple Sclerosis Association of Genova, and, for the second year, with the valuable support of the National State Police Association, Gruppo O.d.V. and P.C. Genova, as well as the regional Tourism Promotion Agency “In Liguria” for the drafting of two guides and communication.
The 2025 edition of the Accessible Sea Guide, with updated mapping, confirms its status as a useful handbook for identifying public beaches with facilities and establishments where—thanks to specific services—access to the shoreline and the sea is guaranteed. The Sea Guide confirms its role as a useful tool both for informing tourists and for helping residents navigate the region's offerings of accessible accommodations. Its characteristics were verified directly on-site by specially trained volunteers.
The first Accessible Hotels Guide has been created in 2025. This new tool is a natural continuation of the process begun with the Accessible Sea Guide, and it’s an integral part of the broader project for an Accessible Liguria, a concrete commitment to a region truly open to all. The guide is the result of a thorough survey conducted on an initial select group of accommodations that voluntarily joined the project. Each facility highlights every service needed to ensure a full welcome, with the aim of providing a practical and transparent tool for travelers seeking reliable information.
A new section for Accessible Liguria has been launched on the tourist information portal www.lamialiguria.it, where content such as projects, services, experiences, and itineraries will be uploaded and made available to everyone.
The regional project "Increasing Accessible and Inclusive Tourism in Regione Liguria" has taken off in 2025. It was approved by the Department for Policies for Persons with Disabilities of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and funded with €1.859.628. The project is the result of a consultation conducted in the preceding months with the Regional Third Sector Forum, the Regional Council for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Chambers of Commerce, the Trade Associations, and ANCI Liguria, representing Ligurian municipalities. It is the result of the aggregation of proposals submitted by the four leading municipalities that won the selection process launched in December 2024. The interventions, aimed at promoting the accessibility of beach resorts, museums, itineraries, and other tourism resources, will be implemented in the four homogeneous territorial tourism areas, in collaboration with the participating third sector organizations. In Liguria Agency will be responsible for promoting, disseminating, and communicating the initiatives implemented in the region and for jointly promoting ongoing initiatives related to tourism accessibility, which will make our destination increasingly welcoming and inclusive.
