actions and projects of Regione Liguria – Tourism to achieve accessible, inclusive and sustainable tourism

With Regional Government Resolution no. 468 of 17/05/24, the Memorandum of Understanding for the creation and promotion of the Guide to the Accessible Sea 2024 was approved between Regione Liguria, INAIL - National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work - Liguria Regional Directorate, Regional Council for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, AISM - Italian Multiple Sclerosis Association and the Regional Agency for Tourism Promotion In Liguria. The Guide, presented on 02/08/24, is a useful vademecum for identifying bathing establishments, free beaches and equipped free beaches where, thanks to specific services, accessibility to the coast and the sea is guaranteed. In the 2024 edition, 222 facilities were surveyed and verified, with a significant increase in accessible seaside tourism offerings of 44% compared to 2023. The Guide is designed not only to inform tourists, but also to help Ligurian citizens and residents with reduced mobility to orient themselves in the offer of accessible beaches present in the regional territory. The Memorandum of Understanding has been renewed for 2025 and will lead to a new updated and integrated edition of the Guide. In 2025, the first Guide of accessible hotels will also be created, for an accessible beach-hotel tourism offer.

The new section Liguria Accessibile (Accessible) has been activated on the tourist information portal lamialiguria, where contents such as projects, services, experiences and itineraries available to all will be uploaded.

In 2025, the regional project called “Increase in accessible and inclusive tourism in Regione Liguria” will start, approved by the Department for policies in favour of people with disabilities of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and financed with 1.859.628 euros. The project is the result of the consultation, which took place in the previous months with the Regional Forum of the third sector, the Regional Consultation for the protection of the rights of the disabled person, the Chambers of Commerce, the Trade Associations and ANCI Liguria representing the Ligurian Municipalities, and it’s the result of the aggregation of the proposals presented by the four lead Municipalities that won the selection process started in December 2024. The interventions, aimed at promoting the tourist accessibility of beach resorts, museums, itineraries and other tourist resources, will be developed in the four homogeneous tourist territorial areas, in collaboration with the Third Sector entities involved. The Regional Agency for Tourism Promotion In Liguria will be responsible for the promotion, dissemination and communication of the initiatives that will be implemented in the territory and the unitary promotion of the ongoing initiatives related to tourist accessibility that make our destination increasingly welcoming and inclusive.
