Regione Liguria supports, with all local stakeholders, both public and private, the development of tourism initiatives that offer opportunities for a sustainable discovery and engaging experiences for both tourists and residents. Residents are also encouraged to actively participate in tourism development, through targeted meetings on the development of projects funded by regional, national, and European funds.

Thanks as well to project initiatives developed with the PITEM MITO initiative of the Alcotra Program, Alpi Liguri Regional Natural Park received the CETS (European Charter for Sustainable Tourism in Protected Areas) in 2022, an important international recognition certifying virtuous territorial management in the tourism sector. The Park's municipalities, associations, and tourism and economic operators have collaborated to develop a shared strategy with concrete actions for sustainable tourism. With the Alpimed+ Ecotour project, of the Alcotra Program 2021-2027, Parco Alpi Liguri is developing the next phase of the CETS, through mutual commitment between the protected area and local tourism businesses. Within the project, Parco Alpi Liguri will be the leader of the coordination of the CETS of protected areas involved in the partnership.

Similarly, in December 2023, the Permanent Sustainable Tourism Forum of the Beigua Regional Natural Park approved the Strategy and Action Plan 2024-2028, which the Park Authority then submitted to Europarc to finalize its application for the ECST. In November 2024, the Beigua Park received the CETS. This certification demonstrates the territories' constant commitment to dialogue and collaboration with all local stakeholders to define a series of actions aimed at environmental, economic, and social development.

Regione Liguria is participating in Liguria Tourism - Regional Development of Western Liguria project, funded by DG REFORM through the Technical Support Instrument (TSI). Liguria Tourism supports the sustainable transformation of the area around Gallinara island through green and regenerative tourism strategies, in close collaboration with Regione and the University of Genova.
