In 2021 Plungė tourism information center together with Plungė district municipality implemented a small project “Alsėdžiai Knowledge Center”, which was financed be Ministry of Economy and Innovation. Project aim- in the little city to create a small museum about village history, famous people.
The knowledge center is small, but modern and provides a lot of information with many visual and interactive solutions. Having a knowledge center, it was necessary to implement it. Knowing that a very creative community lives there, we came up with the cognitive educational program "Land of Presidents: The Story of Narutavičiai". We also included our neighbors in the program - Renavo manor (Mažeikiai district). To make the program not boring, we made it theatrical, we recreated the characters of the Republic of Alsėdžiai, who cheerfully present the town and its past history. And in order to fully fulfill the program, we used local resources: the "Bishops' diches" was recreated, which is made right in the school canteen. We started with this program in the spring, we got a lot of interest and good feedbacks. Of course, we still see many new ideas for improving this program in the future. However, what is most interesting - that the community itself accepted this challenge and revealed the town's potential from the other side. We think it is a "start opportunity", we can say that this story is a SUCCESS STORY for us! Some investing’s opened up new opportunities and started a New History!
Tourism information center work and cooperation with the community revealed a simple town as a new tourist destination and an example of sustainable toorism.
We hope that the cooperation between our organization and the local community will definitely grow in the future. Cooperation and consulting, carrying out joint activities already brought obvious benefits to the local community and economy during 2023 year. By 2025, it is expected that at least 2 local producers will be included in the established program to provide their services or local products and to make our program more interesting.
We, as Plungė tourism information center, will try to establish at least 1 more program with another community in our district by 2025. And by 2025, it is expected included at least 3 local producers in a new program.
In this way, it will be possible to evenly distribute tourist flows in “summer-tourism season” and bring people to less visited destinations. It is very important because we have Žemaitija National park and tourist flows are quite big in “summer-tourism season”. Working with bigger groups and special programs contributes to sustainable and green tourism by saving transport fuel and food resources. Cooking for bigger groups, water is saved and food is not wasted.
