The European Commission’s recommendation on a common European data space for cultural heritage (C(2021) 7953 final) outlines a strategic framework to enhance the digitization, accessibility, and preservation of cultural heritage across the EU. The Member States are encouraged to digitize all cultural heritage monuments, sites, objects, and artifacts by 2030, with a focus on those at risk of degradation. In addition, the recommendation highlights the importance of making digitized cultural heritage widely accessible to the public, researchers, and educational institutions. It encourages the reuse of digital cultural heritage in various sectors, such as education, tourism, and creative industries, to foster innovation and economic growth.

Member States are also urged to promote cooperation among cultural institutions, both within and across borders, to share best practices and resources.
