HERIT ADAPT expands to six new Mediterranean countries

Having tested its heritage tourism model across nine sites in eight Mediterranean countries, HERIT ADAPT has moved into a 21-month Transfer Phase, bringing its approach to new destinations in Spain, Greece, Italy, Portugal, North Macedonia and Albania.

During its Testing Phase, HERIT ADAPT piloted digital modelling, immersive technologies, AI-supported storytelling and data-driven monitoring at nine heritage sites, working with local communities through interdisciplinary Territorial Working Groups to improve visitor management and reduce pressure on the sites themselves. Rather than developing new tools from scratch, the Transfer Phase applies this same validated model and methodology to new territories, pairing experienced "giver" partners with new "receiver" partners, supported by 28 associated partners across the Mediterranean.

The expanded consortium is led by the Region of Western Greece, with partners including the ATHENA Research and Innovation Centre, Sapienza University of Rome, the University of Granada, the Andalusian Regional Ministry of Tourism, the Municipality of Saranda (Albania), and the Municipality of Ohrid (North Macedonia), among others.
